How to Fix Candle Tunneling

What is Candle Tunneling?
Candle tunneling occurs when a candle burns down the center, leaving a thick ring of hard wax around the edges of the jar. Not only does this look unappealing, but it also wastes a significant amount of your luxury candle. Tunneling happens when a candle is not allowed to achieve a full melt pool during its initial burns.
How Do You Fix a Tunneling Candle?
If your candle has already started to tunnel, don't throw it away! You can fix it using the "foil method."
Simply wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the top edge of the candle jar, leaving a hole in the center for the flame. The foil will reflect the heat back down toward the edges, melting the hard wax ring. Let it burn for 1 to 2 hours until the entire surface is melted evenly.
How to Prevent Candle Tunneling
The best way to deal with tunneling is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Follow these three rules for your C&G Luxury Candles:
1.The First Burn is Crucial: The first time you light a new candle, you must let it burn until the melted wax reaches all the way to the edges of the vessel. This usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. Wax has a "memory," and if you extinguish it too early, it will only burn to that same diameter in the future.
2.Trim Your Wick: Always trim your cotton wick to 1/4 inch before every single burn. This prevents the flame from getting too large and creating soot.
3.Avoid Drafts: Keep your burning candle away from open windows, fans, or AC vents to ensure an even burn.
